THE OFFICIAL SITE OF ION

A Creative Collaboration

ion’s goal is to write personal and political songs of faith and praise. Our focus is to lyrically explore the deeper meaning of “being a Christian”, to understand that all is not always rosy when it comes to our personal faith life, and seeking the biblical answers to the issues that face Christians today.
Sonically ion’s goal is to write emotionally driven pop-rock, with focus on beautiful melodies and soaring choruses. In everything ion does, we strive to promote and praise our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

ABOUT

Five... Four... Three... What is going on!?
The band ion actually started in 2004 on highway 407, just north of Burlington, Ontario, Canada. Founding member singer/guitarist Paul was giving keyboardist/singer Tim a ride to a hockey game in Toronto. Paul had been mainly just writing songs for the past year, and Tim, who was in another band and was interested in playing more “non-praise-and-worship” type music. They got to talking and decided to start playing together. Soon after, Mike, who had been in the previous band with Tim, was added to that fold as another guitarist/singer. This version of the yet unnamed ion lasted for about a month before Paul recruited his old bass player from their previous band NVS. Bert, however, had since moved over to playing drums and so another band member, Dan, was brought in to play bass.
The name ion was thought up by keyboardist Tim, the meaning of the name is open for interpretation, including a group that is electrified by gaining another member, but the main idea of having our “eye on the prize”, or our “eye on Christ” seems the most fitting for us as a band.
The goal of the band was unanimous - with an effort to write accessible Christian music, with emphasis on strong songwriting and relevant lyrics, ion does not want people listening to them only because they are Christian but rather because of the strength of the songs and lyrics. In 2009 ion released their sophomore album entitled Return to Sender which was met with lots of enthusiasm.
In 2012, ion began work on their follow up to Return to Sender, entitled The Big Picture which was released in May of 2014.
In September of 2015 founding member Paul left the band to pursue other avenues of music in a solo path. Then there were four...
The four remaining members felt that there was still creative juices flowing and wanted to record some more songs. They began writing and recording. Early 2016 Mike accepted a job in northern Alberta. The push was on now to capture the essence of ion as a four member band. All of Mike's parts were recorded just in time, before he and his family left for the wild west. Tim, Bert, and Dan stayed behind and fleshed out the rest of the song parts to what is the 4th studio recording, an EP entitled FOUR.
Then there were three...
ion is still committed to making music together and regularly jam and collaborate with other artists in the Hamilton area. What does the future hold for ion? Who knows what is still to come in the big picture.
